My group and I researched on Archbishop Felixberto Camacho Flores for the National History Day competition website category. We represented our school, so as other groups, for middle school division. Making the website was difficult. We had to put in all the information and pictures that we took and we had to rearranged and organize everything in the website. We place 3rd in the school judging. Then we won 1st place for the final judging island wide. So my group and I get to go to Maryland for the national competition! The experience was fun and I learned a lot on how one individual in Guam is really important to their legacy. Researching on Archbishop Flores was a little bit difficult, but the challenge was rewarding. We took several field trips to libraries which by the way was fun. Our group learned a lot about Archbishop Flores his life, on what he does as an Archbishop, his other jobs, and his legacy.
What me and my group would done different was to be more specific on our research and put in more effort too. We would also get more interviews like a priest who at least new about Archbishop Flores. Even get an interview with Guam’s current Governor, Felix Camacho. He is the nephew of your individual. I wish there wasn’t a limit to the words we could put on our website. We found a lot about him and I also wanted to put in a page about Archbishop Flores inviting the Pope John Paul II’s to visit Guam.
Well if we decided to do another website and do on a different person it would be George Washington. We would choose him because he has done a lot for the United States of America. He won several battles during the war between British for independence. Learning about his achievements trough Social Studies made me want to learn more about and tell his story with a younger person’s point of view. George Washington is a good individual and has a big legacy.

NHD: Archbishop Felixberto Camacho Flores
This month our class has been so busy about the National History Day Competition. The theme is The Individual History: Actions and Legacies and doing it in website form. Me and my group chose Archbishop FelixbertoCamacho Flores who played a big role in the history of Guam. He was the first bishop and archbishop Chamorro descent of Guam and the Marianas Islands. He also tried and resolved the two very important issues that are still going on today. That is abortion and gambling. Abortion is now made legal in the U.S. which is now allowed here in Guam where the woman with the unborn ueturus in thier stomach makes a decision if they want an abortion or not. Gambling is a bigger issue which is I think is known as Proprosition A. According to Mr. Jon Calvo (that we have interviewed) from what he learned, Archbishop Flores believes that gambling will harm and destroy the way of life in the island.
He also brought the Cathedral in Agana to a whole new level by beatifying Father Luis de San Vistores who brought catholicism to Guam. He also invited His Holiness Pope Paul John II (after being the newly elected Pope) to visit Guam when Archbishop Flores visited Rome. He did other things as well as in became not only a part in the church of God, but also in the in his community. For example hewbecame a superintendent of the catholic schools here on Guam. But sadly as he went to San Francisco, California to get surgery, it was successful and yet he died shortly. It was sad news when it reached Guam according to the different varieties of newpapers of 1975 from the Nieves M. Flores Library Collection. Now he has grave buried underneath the altar in the Cathedral-Basilica in Agana.
The past few weeks were, like I said were very busy. Our class of groups did a lot of research and had a couple of fieldtrips to the MARC library and the Agana library. Finally when the last day or the judging came on the 23rd my group won third place which we will go to the finals and we will present this in the Agana Shopping Center. This week the 3 groups out of 6 will add the finishing touches also add little improvements. Then we will be done with the website and I hope we will be finish with in time. I also learned a lot about our individual in Guam history.

Journal Entry #13
My most favorite or liked important historical person in the world is George Washington. He is America’s first president. He also lead America’s freedom away from the British by wining the Revolutionary War in 1759. I choose him because he did one of the most tremendous things like become a Commander in Cheif of the Continental Army and was elected by the delegates in the Second Continental Congress assembled in Philadelphia in May 1775. He was elected because he had expirience and true leadership.

Journal Entry #12
For our group assignment we had to find the family ticket prices of four for theme parks in Orlando, Florida. We were given three theme parks by our teacher. Disney’s Magic Kingdom, Universal Studios, and Sea World. We had to find the ticket prices for the adult ticket, child ticket for park passes. Then we had to total the price all togther making the family ticket prices. We had to choose the median meaning in between. So we had to find the best price in between the cheapest and the expensive parks. In results, the winning was Universal Studios Orlando, Florida. The family price was not the cheapest (Sea World) and was not the most expensive (Disney’s Magic Kingdom). It was a difficult assighnment, but is one of the awesomest. It helpes us with using the spreadsheet and the chance to see the cool theme parks even only on their website.
Universal Studios is a good choice and might be a fun experience for the family of four, but in this case is would be a greater experience for my whole family. If only I could actually go there and see it for myself. The theme parks have fun rides which I don’t really know but I think is pretty awesome. I think its is also a good choice if you are on a tight budget, but don’t want the cheepest nor expensive and wants a good one then this park in Orlando, Florida is the best choice.

Today at school all 8th graders were to report to the gym for a special presentation. A guest speaker from DYA came to school and talked about cyber-bullying. She showed us with a slideshow and some video clips. She discussed about how anyone in any age can get bullied on the Internet. Websites such as Myspace and other interacting websites. She told us about a victim who was struck by cyber-bullying. Her name was Megan Meyer.
Her story started when she and her best friends fought and befriended each other. While she was on her Myspace she met a 16-year old boy name Josh. They started being close just by sending emails to each other and chatting. Megan thought he was attractive and was her boyfriend. One day when she got a message from Josh saying that he doe not want to be friends anymore and how mean and a bad person she is. Josh posted their private messages on his blog exposeing it to everyone on Myspace. Megan couldn’t take that much rejection an suicided by hanging herself in her room. When her father found out he read the messages and found out this “Josh” was not real at all. It was Megan’s neighbor’s mom. Her story was very convincing and proof how we can be more than bullied on the Internet–we can also get hurt.
After that presentation on cyber-bullying, there were other guest speakers; three police officers. Each one told us about bullying and even when they got bullied as well as they bullied others. They told were we will go if we continue bullying others as we get older, jail. Then there was another presentation by our school’s Peer Mediators. They made us review about bullying and what we can do about it too, by a short skit that they have been working on for weeks. It was a cool presentation so far. After being in the hot Gym for almost three hours, there was one more presentation and the last one (YES, FINALLY!!) by Mr. McDow using a slide presentation. It was interesting for a while until the other 8th graders in the Gym kind of stop listening to him. Oh well…
I will say that there is no need for any improvemnets for the next time they will hold another assembly like this. It is already perfect the way it is.

Journal Entry #10 Outline
I. First: Reuniting with family even far away
A. Calling up the family even far away
1. called my brothers in the Philippines and greeted them
2. called my dad and grandma (mother’s side) in Saipan and greeted them both
B. Sending and receiving gifts
1. my mom and I sent Christmas gifts before Christmas to the Philippines
2. they sent us a couple of gifts to us
C. Found a relative
1. found out I’ve got a godmother here in Guam
2. I learned how my godmother met my mom.
II. Second: To be more in the spirit
A. Do not be a Christmas frown
1. to be glad that it’s the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ
2. to be more in the Christmas spirit and not trying to bring anyone down
3. Christmas is important to a lot of people even to my family
B. To give than to recieve
1. to be more genorous to other family members by giving gifts
2. Recieving is not so important to the person who wants it, but to the person who needs it
….
The first lesson I learned during my Christmas break was how important as it is to reunite with a family member even if far away. I called up my brothers and other family members in the Philippines and greeted them a Merry Christmas. I also called up my dad and my grandmother (mom’s side) in Saipan and greeting them, too. Me, my mom, and my sister went shopping and bought gifts to send to my family members who lives away. The gifts were just some toys, a couple of clothes and shoes were all placed in a big package. I found out that one of my god mother lives here in Guam! But sadly she is leaving to the Philippines with her whole family and not coming back. So their gift to us for Christmas since they are leaving was to throw a Christmas party and celebrate it with them. I also learned how my mom met my godmother.
My second lesson was to learn to be more in the spirit. I am never really interested in Christmas because my last four kind of well sucked and it put me in a depression every time the holidays comes around. Now I should be glad it’s the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ. I should love Christmas more because it’s important to my family as it is to other people. To give is better than to receive. To be more generous by giving gifts. Recieving is not so important as to the person who wants it, but to the person who needs it.

There are different ways to take a good photo. First find a subject like a person place them in a background that does not have to much exposure to much light or else once you take that, your picture will become a backlit photo. Once your subject is in place take your digital camera and take the picture. If you take that picture and see dark areas around your subject, try checking on your digital camera if you have that fill flash setting to brighten those dark areas and take the photo again. If you decided to take a photo upclose that is called macro. There are some digital cameras that will enable you to take a photo that close. So if you have that option hold your digital camera to the subject upclose and hold the shutter halfway down and it will autofocus to take away the blurryness of being that close. Once, that is done and the photo is not blurred click the shutter button all the way down.
There some important parts to a camera you should know first. In some cameras there is a viewfinder which is where you can look through or look at to compose the image. There is alsoanother part to a camera where you can look at which is the backlight, it is located at the back of the camera and looks like and LCD screen. A hot shoe can be located at the top of some cameras. It is a flash connecter that let’s you attach a flash unit and trigger it in the sync with the shutter. If you have a SD or a secure digital card you can save your digital photos in it. You can put your memory cards in a card reader so you can attach it to your computer and upload them.

Well about my survey it’s pretty tricky to come up with just three questions and seeing the results. The first question well that was the first question in mind and would easily be answered by students “What is your favorite subject? Most of them answered Other in majority. The second one I could’ve put anything, but decided to put “What is your favorite movie this year?” Mostly everyonI answered that question with the up coming movie “Twilight.”
The last question “What is your favorite type of music?” was also one of the questions that came to me. I like to listen to music so this will be one of the question then…. They answered mostly in Hip-Hop. The best I say for there survey in this class was Ritacia because she had a funny and awesome survey i’ve seen so far.

October 31, 2008, today is Halloween and activity day in our school. There would be a dance during this day, but I insist in going to other activities in school. So I went to a room were we had to throw a small “Welcome Back Party” (mostly hosted from his good students) for our reading teacher after leaving to coach his soccer team for a week. It was fun during this day, but sort of boring for my best friend wasn’t here.
We had food like pizza, chips and some sweets. All my friends from my team were there, some actually. Our teacher also had fun besides the part where he had to come back and fort to the classroom. We played a hangman game on the board, but only for a little while. I was actually supposed to go to the game room, but didn’t felt like going anymore after knowing there would be a lot of boys in there ^_^.
